The benefits of not smoking

Since I’m waiting for my brother’s birthday movie to download – 8 MB on a single ISDN line – I have some time to update my web log.

I’ve noticed that I’ve been getting quite some hits on my posts regarding my quitting smoking so I thought I’d share how I’m doing now, slightly more than 6 weeks after stopping.

I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed in the fact that physically I’m feeling pretty much the same. I don’t seem to breathe better, I don’t feel more energy, I actually have had an itchy nose for the last couple of weeks, almost like an allergy.
Probably due to the fact that my nose is no longer numb from smoke & nicotine :-)

So far I haven’t noticed any improvement in tasting and smelling – an often mentioned result!

Then there’s the fact that I’m still a smoker who isn’t smoking and not a non-smoker! I admit I miss it. Wrong, wrong… I’m supposed to be happy I no longer smoke.

But for those who want to quit… really, I am so much happier *mentally* that I no longer smoke. I AM NO LONGER A SLAVE OF CIGARETTES! I do not go out at 11 PM because I’ve finished my pack. And I no longer hear my 4 year old tell me that smoking’s bad.

Okay… so today I can put my first pair of pants away… I no longer fit them – gained a couple of kilos. But in my case that’s good. I have set a limit though. The moment I no longer can button my jeans… it will be time to watch what I’m eating!

Oh… and before I forget. For those interested or using Zyban… I finished the cycle last week – meaning I haven’t been taking the happy pills anymore and that has had no effect whatsoever. So that’s one thing less to worry about (you know, like a new addiction!) Actually the last couple of weeks often I forgot to take the afternoon one!

Okay… halfway done with the 8 MB. Signing off.
