  1. Willow,

So sorry about your Mother-in-law. It seems the doctors are not too familiar with what might be going on with her. It seems she has had a good life and was lively up to this point. Your description of her responses seems to indicate that she might have more going on than the doctors fear. Most protocols in the US suggest giving the patient a month to determine better whether she is healing. Of course, she may have been oxygen starved for too long to recover. You and your family have our deepest sympathy.

Thanks for sharing this sad news and please keep us posted on what happens with you all.

This is a nice site for gardening tips and info. Yes, basilicum is basil. Basil and thyme come in a vast array of varieties–almost as vast as crucifera; cabbage/mustard family. This is an indicator that the plant has been in cultivation for a long time in a wide range of habitats.

Little herb gardens : simple secrets by Georgeanne Brennan (living in Provence) is a great little book and well matched with your climate in Toscana. Highly recommended!
